Fishing adventure diary on the Boston Whaler 190 Outrage.

Location: Victor Rock and 七星排 ("seven star reef")

Day 1: 2 May 2021, depart from Marina Cove at 6:30 a.m. to Victor Rock and 七星排 (fishing from 7:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.)

This was the first time I took the Boston Whaler 190 Outrage to Victor Rock, a yellow cross-shaped structure east of Basalt Island in Sai Kung. There was calm water in the morning and we managed to reach Victor Rock from Marina Cove, Sai Kung in under 30 minutes, averaging 27 knots. By the time we arrived and tied up to the yellow structure, the tide was rising and would continue to do so until 10:25 a.m.

Despite fishingreminder.com stating that it was a poor day for fishing and our fishing time was only a "minor bite time", we had very good results with a variety of sand mackerel, chicken grunts and other small fish.

However, when we moved approximately 0.4 nautical miles east to七星排, the fish didn't bite as frequently so we left shortly afterwards at around 11:30 a.m. for lunch. All in all, it was a good day with a full coleman to bring home for food. As usual, the chicken grunts were very tender when steamed for dinner.

Day 2: 7 May 2021, depart from Marina Cove at 6:30 a.m. to Victor Rock and 七星排 (fishing from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.)

The tide change was less dramatic compared to 2 May 2021, and www.fishingreminder.com predicted that it would be a good day to fish.

We tied up to Victor Rock again first when we arrived but the fish were not biting as frequently as they did on 2 May 2021. As such, at around 10:40 a.m. we moved to 七星排 and two dolphin fish bit the minnow lures we were casting. All in all, another fruitful day at Victor Rock and七星排!

Day 3: 8 May 2021, depart from Marina Cove at 6:45 a.m. to Victor Rock and 七星排 (fishing from 7:20 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.)

According to fishingreminder.com, it would be an average day for fishing. Indeed, the bites were less frequent and the only noteworthy catch was a medium chicken grunt.

All in all, due to its close proximity to Marina Cove and located in the open sea, return trips to Victor Rock and七星排 will definitely be made so please watch this space for more updates!
